I don't think the inactivity is cause people are shy or even cause they are leechers, but simply that people need a reason to want to participate.
This sort of thing happens in all communities, whether on a forum, in a chatbox, on discord, or in a public community... people need incentive to participate, reasons to actually be part of the community.
When the entire community is essentially just a re-hosting source, and all posts are either asking for support or showcasing something, then people have not much else to contribute that hasn't already been said before.
As I have mentioned on different sites, forums, and even discords... to keep a community alive, you need thought provoking and attention grabbing discussions.
You need topics and people that can make the site feel alive, even when it is dead, cause then the activity of the few, encourages others to also participate.
You need discussions and community activities that promotes and encourages community support, as well as encouraging people to actually want to talk to each other.
Things like a QOTD are a good start, as it gives people something to think about, while also allowing others to comment on those thoughts and share their own.
All and all, the reasons why communities die, has nothing to do with the community itself, but the way the community is designed, the kind of people you foster in it, and a lack of people willing to carry the conversation when it is needed most.
Hell, I sit on here waiting to see if even the staff will chat in different topics, but not even the staff talks on here much, and if the staff more or less doesn't participate, then nobody else will either.
There's an old saying "shit rolls downhill", and that is to say... if those at the top set a bad example, then those below them will copy that example.
So, of the heads of this community don't do anything to encourage activity, then people have no reason to participate.
I see no events or activities that gets people to want to be involved, things like a "we want to showcase your best palette edits of this character of the month" or things like "we're going to do a weekly video showcase of our favorite community member fights and talk about the playability of each character and the pros and the cons", or evem videos where you showcase and discuss different legends of the community.
Sadly, this website isn't the only one that is dying... TrinityMugen, MMV, MFFA, and many others have also begun to bite the dust, simply because all the drive and motivation to keep them alive, is dying off, and even then, sites like MugenGuild are also dying because its actually a hassle to post when you gotta fill out a verification process every time.
All and all, as I have said... there just seems to be nobody interested in revitalizing the excitement and thrill of MUGEN anymore, and until we get someone in the community with a voice that speaks to the people of it, then the odds of community growth will get worse.
